Upgrade your Roof Rack Lighting
When you’re chasing the horizon after dark, whether it’s a late-night beach run, a remote outback trek, or the final stretch home after a weekend away, your factory headlights just aren’t enough. Sure, they light the road ahead, but they can’t throw a wide, far-reaching beam that lets you spot what’s coming long before it’s in your way.
That’s where a roof-mounted LED light bar changes the game. Installed high above the cab, it throws light further and wider, helping you spot obstacles, wildlife, and track changes before they become a problem. But here’s the thing: a great light bar is only part of the story. The right roof rack (and the right mounting setup) can make all the difference in how your lights perform, how easy they are to install, and how safe and reliable they are on and off-road.

Roof Rack LED Light Bars
Roof-mounted LED light bars are a favourite among serious 4WDers for good reason. From this elevated position, the light projects at a better angle, cutting down shadows and illuminating a larger section of the track ahead. At Ultra Vision Lighting, most of our LED light bars can be roof-mounted. Our Nitro Maxx range, for example, delivers exceptional distance and spread from a roof position, which is perfect for touring setups that demand both reach and coverage.
Roof Rack Light Bar Mounts
A solid light bar needs an equally solid mounting system. Roof rack light bar mounts keep your gear rock-steady on everything from corrugations to creek crossings. Ultra Vision Lighting offers purpose-built mounting brackets for popular racks, including ARB Base Rack, Rhino Pioneer, Rola Titan, and more. Most installs are straightforward and can be done by attaching the brackets to the rack, securing the light bar, and wiring it in. If you’re not a confident DIY-er, most 4WD accessory workshops can fit them in under an hour.

2. How do you install a light bar to a roof rack with a mount?
Fitting a light bar to your rack is usually a three-step process:
- Position the brackets on your rack so they match the light bar’s mounting points.
- Secure the light bar with the supplied bolts and washers. Keep them slightly loose until you’ve set the beam angle.
- Tighten it all up after aiming the beam for optimal coverage.
Pro tip: For dusty or foggy conditions, aim the bar slightly down to avoid glare bouncing off the bonnet or particles in the air.
3. How do I wire a light bar on a roof rack?
Here’s the general approach:
- Run the cable from the light bar along the rack leg, protecting it with split conduit or heat shrink.
- Route the wiring into the engine bay, preferably through an existing grommet. If none is available, install a waterproof grommet.
- Connect via a wiring harness with an inline fuse, relay, and dashboard switch.
Our pre-made wiring harnesses make it easy to connect everything safely and ensure your light bar complies with electrical standards. If you’re not comfortable with auto electrics, have a professional installer handle it, as incorrect wiring can cause shorts, failures… or worse.

4. Is it legal to roof mount your light bar?
In Australia, light bar laws vary by state. Most require the light to operate only with high beam, and to be installed in a way that doesn’t cause glare for the driver. Some jurisdictions have specific rules about the number of light bars and where they can be placed.
